The Odyssey of a Black Woman Married to a White Man in Mauritania

Homelessness is a pain so deep that it cuts through your soul like machine cuts through glass, so smooth and so fast, leaving a gaping wound, blood and all parts of you scattered on the ground. I never wanted to go to Mauritania but my ex husband, an American convinced me to do so because anything that looked white was a target in Nigeria and a good catch for ransome. For most black criminals, all whites are rich so we decided to leave in a country that was affordable and he could study Arabic since we were both muslim converts but along the way, our fairy tale romance turned to tales of narrcissim, lies and the desire for my white ex to have a black wife who worshipped him like white was the color of God. I was tired of the abuse so divorce was a relief as long as I could get my deferred islamic dowry and buy a flight ticket back to Lagos; to the dreary home of my family but home no matter how tattered will always be home especially when it contained my nine year old son who was to jo...

Noora Homes Apartments Secures Digital Partnership Deal With Wishup and Zuri Team

Noora Homes Apartments, an emerging leader in the real estate sector in Mauritania has announced an affiliate partnership deal with Wishup, a leading virtual assistant company located in the United States with its headquarters in India on the 28th of August, 2024.

Earlier, on the 26th of August, 2024, Noora Homes Apartments also sealed off another partnership deal with Zuri Team, a reputable Nigerian digital training academy that has equipped over 60,739 participants across the globe with technology skills.

Zuri Team, co-founded in 2020 by Seyi Onifade, a Nigerian entrepreneur and software developer, provided a 100% subsidised technical training in software development and design by partnering with leading technology companies and nonprofits organizations since 2021.

Two years after that, Zuri Team has collaborated with companies such as Ingressive for Good, founded by Maya Horgan to provide underprivileged participants with 100% free technology training courses with certification and internship opportunities.

Zuri Team's co-founder, Seyi Onifade in an interview with MSME Africa said, “Our goal is to give everyone a chance at a better life. We do this by collaborating with organizations, NGOs and individuals whose interests align with ours. These organisations sponsor participants to take part in the training.”

“This year alone, we have trained 60,739 people across 100+ countries in collaboration with IngressiveForGood. Most of our participants are from Africa. However, we have had participants from other parts of the world,” Onifade said.

One thing that stands out about Zuri Team is their participation requirements. They do not conduct qualifying exams for the full scholarship they provide. Everyone who applies for Zuri Team training gets in and if the number of participants exceeds the cohort quota, the remaining participants are put on a waiting list and enrolled for the next available cohort.

Participants are allowed to apply for other courses on Zuri Team after successfully completing a particular course and the courses are 100% remote. The Trainers and participants meet in groups created on softwares like Slack to manage content, live class scheduling, assignment announcements and management. This software can be accessed on both laptops and mobile devices.

Successful participants who complete the internship are paired with Zuri Team's partner organisations such as Google, Oracle, Paystack, Flutterwave, Figma, Arca, Chatdesk, Chaka, Blue-chip Technologies amongst others. These companies integrate high performing participants into their companies through internships, exposing them to mentors that help them improve their skills.

Currently through its direct personal free scholarship program, Zuri Team has trained 34,000 students. However, in recent times, Zuri has announced that it would be charging a token fee for all its courses to prevent participants from abusing the full scholarship program as people place value on what they pay for no matter how little.

This token fee is still highly subsidized and the token fee does not amount to anything when compared to what other training academies charge for the same courses.

“It is dirt cheap because it is just a commitment fee to make participants feel like they have a stake and it motivates them to dedicate their time and efforts in completing the training since they wouldn't want their money to waste no matter how insignificant the amount”.

Now Zuri Team has partnered with Noora Homes Apartments to give participants, especially underrepresented women in countries like Mauritania, a chance to build a career in the technology sector.

Noora Homes Apartments through its pet project known as Noora Homes Apartments Affiliates would enable Mauritanians to pay for Zuri Team's training in their local currency. This would ease unemployment in Mauritania and equip young Mauritanians with tech skills that they can use to seek employment in Mauritania or remotely.

According to Noora Homes Apartments CEO, this training opportunity is not limited to Mauritanians and anyone can sign up and pay for Zuri Team's courses through Noora Homes Apartments Affiliates. The advantage of doing so is that they get access to many other benefits that come with Noora Homes Apartments being a partner of Zuri Team.

On the other hand, the partnership with Wishup, a leading US Virtual Assistant company would help small businesses and individuals in Mauritania and other countries have access to multiskilled Virtual Assistants worldwide. Citizens of Mauritania and other countries that can not use payment gateways like PayPal can now pay for Virtual Assistants services easily through Noora Homes Apartments project, Noora Homes Apartments Affiliates

“We are currently test running the reception of Wishup and Zuri Team's projects in Mauritania and this is not limited to our clients in Mauritania. We have clients from all over the world and while our company's main focus is to provide them with quality unfurnished apartments and to help them relocate easily to Mauritania, we want to offer them an opportunity to make great careers in tech and increase their income”, Noora Homes Apartments CEO said.
